Biography

Rob Heaslop is a geologist with 19 years’ industry experience, and a lifetime’s interest in rocks and the natural world. After being introduced to earth science studies at secondary school, Rob completed a Bachelor of Science at The University of Queensland (UQ) in 2005, majoring in earth science and geology. In 2006, Rob was awarded a 1st Class Honours degree from UQ for his thesis that examined crystallographic properties of iron oxides at the Ravensthorpe Nickel Laterite Project in Western Australia.

After university, Rob commenced his industry career as a Graduate Geologist with Rio Tinto Exploration in Western Australia and has subsequently held the positions of Geologist and Senior Geologist at Rio Tinto’s Simandou Iron Ore Project in Guinea, Exploration Manager for Metals of Africa (now Waratah Minerals Ltd) in Mozambique and Tanzania, Exploration Manager for Axiom Mining in the Solomon Islands, and Consultant Exploration Manager for Inca Minerals in Australia. In addition to MRG Resources, Rob is a founding Director of Liberation Resources Pty Ltd, Orogen Metals Pty Ltd, and Sunbird Resources Pty Ltd, and is Chief Geologist for Midwest Minerals Pty Ltd.

Throughout his career, Rob has explored for iron ore, Broken Hill-type lead-zinc-silver, porphyry copper-gold, IOCG and ISCG, magnetite-hosted vanadium-titanium, nickel-copper-PGM massive sulfides, lateritic nickel-cobalt, and epithermal, orogenic, and intrusion-related gold. Rob is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (MAusIMM), Australian Institute of Geoscientists (MAIG), and the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG).

During 2015, Rob turned his attention to project generation studies for precious and base metals and assessed the potential to develop this into a standalone business. As a result of this work, in September 2016, MRG Resources was born and its first exploration licence – the Balter Au Project – was secured. Subsequent Company growth with a diversity of targeted commodities and deposit types has set a strong foundation for MRG Resources to become a successful self-funded project generator and early-stage exploration company.
